Report by Terence Chan, Gillian Tay and Jocelyn Chong

The annual games between the Malacca Bar and the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Malacca Branch was held on Saturday, 28.7.2007 at the Malacca Club Sports Complex in Tanjung Kling, Melaka. Among the games played were badminton, table tennis, squash, netball, snooker and soccer. Netball was called off eventually due to the lack of players from MMA.

The Malacca Bar started the ball rolling with an emphatic win through our first doubles in badminton where the pair of Kelvin and Muhamad Faizal won with a score of 15-9, 15-5. Malacca Bar easily thumped the MMA 6-1 and MMA won the only consolation point after defeating our last double of T.S Moi and Aloysius.

K.Y. Tan, Jaspal Singh and Faizal represented the Malacca Bar in squash and won 2 out of 3 matches. K.Y Tan played the first match where he was made to struggle for five sets before winning the match at 5-9, 9-2, 9-4, 1-9, 10-8. Faizal played the second match and was defeated by his opponent with straight games. Nevertheless, Jaspal Singh came to the rescue and pummeled Dr. Andrew with a convincing win of 9-3, 9-4 and 9-1.

Kiang, Nizam and Hamizi played snooker for the Bar. Hamizi played and lost the first match. Nevertheless, our the next player, Nizam, managed to level the score by winning the second match. The cool and calm Nizam managed to control the game and won the match with a score of 41-29, 42-12 and 43-28. In the last match played by Kiang, it was an easy victory for him and he breezed to victory.

Our table tennis team suffered a heavy defeat when they lost all the matches to MMA’s players. However, they still deserved compliment for their determination and effort as they gave a good fight before losing.

The final game of the evening was the men’s soccer. MMA went ahead with a 3-0 score in a first half. However, the Bar team came back strongly after the breather and scored a goal through a free kick. But, it was not enough to claw back to the game and the Bar lost the game with a 4-1 score.

Dinner was served after the exhausting games. At this juncture, the Malacca Bar led the overall score at 3-2. The main event of the night was the “BOAT RACE” competition where Fiona, Jaspal, Thangaraj, Y.K Tan and Sundra represented the Malacca Bar for the competition. Our boat racers fought hard but the MMA team still won the “Boat Race” competition. As such, the MMA and Bar Games ended in an overall draw of 3-3.
