Pupils and members gathered at the Malacca Bar Auditorium for a talk on the basics of judicial review by Ms. Kee Hui Yee on 2 December 2022.
Some of the points covered during the talk were as follows:
- how the court would proceed if the case involves a mixture of public law and private law;
- reliefs that can be granted in a judicial review proceeding;
- a brief study of the case of Norfadila Binti Ahmad Saikin v. Chayed Bin Basirun & Ors, where the damages amounting to RM300,000.00 awarded by the High Court was reduced to RM30,000.00 on appeal; and
- a “rolling” judicial review, as opposed to a conventional approach to judicial review.
The talk ended with a group photograph, after which Ms. Kee stayed back to take further questions from participants.
