Coffee Table Talk: Of Ethics and Court Decorum

Datuk Ng Kong Peng of Messrs K.P. Ng & Amardas and Mr. Kee Tong Kiak of Messrs Chee Siah Le Kee & Partners, who are senior members of the Malacca Bar, were invited to be the speakers for the said talk.

The speakers, who have 55 years of combined experience in litigation practice, had a two-way and interactive sharing session with the pupils-in-chambers and members of the Bar, especially young lawyers, on issues relating to ethics, court decorum as well as contempt of court.

After the opening speech by Mr. Jaspal Singh Gill, the Chairman of the Malacca Bar, Datuk Ng Kong Peng began the first part of the talk with his topic on “Professional Ethics”, and the later part of the talk was continued by Mr. Kee Tong Kiak with his topic on “Court Decorum and Contempt of Court”. At the end of the talk, participants were given opportunity to pose questions to the speakers.

A total of 50 participants attended the talk. Malacca Bar would like to express its appreciation to the two speakers for taking time off their busy schedules and for sharing their knowledge with the pupils-in-chambers as well as the other members of the Bar.
