MELAKA: Those who wish to attend the Law Awareness Campaign 2018 by the Melaka Bar Committee here next weekend are advised to bring along all relevant documentation during the consultation.

Melaka Bar Committee chairman Jaspal Singh Gill said this will enable the lawyers who will be present at the session to study the documents and provide the best advice to the people.

He said the campaign will be held at the concourse of the Mahkota Parade Shopping Mall in Banda Hilir here on Nov 24 and 25.

“During the two-day campaign, volunteer members of the Melaka Bar who are qualified lawyers, will provide the public with legal advice on various areas of the law without any consultation charges,” he said at the Melaka Bar Committee office at Putra Sentosa Business Centre here.

Jaspal said the consultation sessions will take place from 10am to 6pm on both days and open to all, including non-Malaysians.

He said between 20 and 25 volunteers with various legal expertise are expected to be present to provide free legal advice during the campaign.

“The Melaka State Legal Adviser Office will also participate in the campaign and will provide exposure to the public about criminal cases involving children, both as the victims and offenders,” he said, adding that this will be the first time two legal bodies will be working together in a law awareness campaign.

Meanwhile, Amritpal said the campaign is a project by the Melaka Bar Committee to promote legal awareness and inform the public of their rights under the law.

He said advice will be given on various topics such as land matters and disputes, sale and purchase of properties, employment disputes, syariah family matters and administration of Muslim properties.

“The public can register for legal aid as well during the event,” he said.
