4th. January, 2008

To All Members of the Bar,

Circular No. 1 of 2008 : Final Report On Under-Privileged, Orphaned and Abused Children’s Day Out 2007

On 27th. October, 2007, the Malacca Bar Committee ("MBC") organized a charity event for abused, under privileged and orphaned children ("the Children"). Towards this end, the MBC sought the kind assistance of its members for donations to make the event a successful one.

On the aforesaid day, the Children were feted to a feast of hand tossed pizzas and garlic twists as well as entertainment courtesy of Mr. Jason Hoon, master magician and illusionist extraordinaire.

Before the Children had to make their way home, Mr. Ng Kong Peng the Chairman of MBC took the time to present the Children with goodie bags containing gifts courtesy of Nestle Berhad as well as other assorted goodies procured through the kind donations of members of the Malacca Bar. Those interested to view all the photographs of the said event are encouraged to view the same on the Malacca Bar website but for the benefit of those technologically resistant, we annex herewith a modest sampling of photographs of the said event.

MBC is further pleased to inform members that the event merited a letter from Capt. Paul Ong, Director of the Salvation Army Malacca. In essence, Capt. Paul Ong congratulated members of the Malacca Bar for their charitable spirit and conscious effort to impact the lives of the destitute and the less fortunate.

In spite of the depth and breadth of food and entertainment, there was, nevertheless a surplus of donations amounting to RM2,373.82 over expenses. MBC is therefore pleased to inform its members that it will be forwarding the aforesaid surplus to the Salvation Army’s Lighthouse Children’s Home, Sri Ramakrishna Ashram, Rumah Anak Yatim Darul Aitam Bukit Pegoh and Seck Kia Eenh’s Mudita Home respectively.

In keeping with the spirit of the New Year, let’s resolve to be more charitable towards the defenseless and the needy for this coming 2008. As Muhammad Ali once said:

"Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth."

Happy and Prosperous New Year everyone!

Yours faithfully,
(Nizam Bashir)
Chairman
Liason, Charity & Welfare Sub-Committee
